●U.S. homeownership rates rose over the period 1997-2005 for all regions, all age groups, all racial groups, and all income groups.

미국의 주택 소유율은 1997년~2005년까지 인종, 연령대, 소득 수준을 막론하고 지속적으로 증가했다.

●The key to the subprime solution, to preventing future crises like the current one is democratizing finance.

서브프라임 솔루션 해결의 열쇠는 금융 부문을 민주화하는 것이다.

●The ship is sinking, and we have to save it.

배가 침몰하고 있으며, 우리는 그 배를 구해야 한다.

제도 개혁의 요체는 관련 기술을 이해하는 데서 출발한다.

■로버트 쉴러 예일대 경제학과 교수는 명저 《이상 과열(Irrational exuberance)》로 국내에도 널리 알려진 석학이다. 지난 2005년부터 미국 부동산시장의 비이성적 과열을 경고해 온 그는 미 행정부의 위기 불감증을 질타하고 이번 금융위기의 본질과 위기 재발 방지책을 발표했다.
